How to prep for a photoshoot
Ensuring your home is properly prepped for a photoshoot will dramatically impact potential buyers' first impression of your home. It is essential to prep and clean as much as possible prior to your photoshoot to ensure your home is presented in the best way. JA Media will look over the property prior to shooting and may make some adjustments to enhance how the home will look in photos. JA Media will ensure that the process is smooth and positive for the homeowner and will use his artistic ability to make each property stand out and showcase its best features. Ensuring your home is ready for a photoshoot will guarantee you get the best service from your session. Follow the tips below to prepare your home:
INTERIOR
01.
Clear kitchen counters
Remove appliances like coffee makers, toasters, knife blocks, utensil holders, dish racks, sponges, etc. This will enhance and showcase your counter space. If you cannot remove some appliances, unplug and hide the cords behind them. Make sure counters are wiped clean and free of debris.

Turn on all lights inside the home
Turn on all lights in all rooms of your home, including any lights under your kitchen cabinets. This will enhance how your photos turn out and the lighting inside. Replace any burnt out bulbs prior to shoot.
03.
Clear bathroom counters and shower
Please remove all toiletries, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc from bathroom counters and showers. Hide any garbage cans and close all toilet lids. Please make sure bathroom is clean and free of any shower scum or buildup.
04.
Remove personal photos and magnets
Please remove any photo frames with personal family photos and/or any magnets on any appliances like the refrigerator, dishwasher, etc. Clear clutter off of any desk spaces as well.
05.
Open curtains and blinds
Please make sure curtains are open prior to shoot and blinds are either fully open or the slats are open to get a clear view out of the windows.
06.
Remove any pet supplies
Please remove any pet food bowls, cat litter boxes, cat towers, dog crates, pet beds, toys etc.
07.
Clear dressers and nightstands in bedrooms
Please remove all clutter and items on top of dressers and nightstands. You can place them inside a cabinet or drawer so it is out of sight. Remove any personal photos here as well. Make the beds in all bedrooms.
08.
Clear clutter around the home
Please remove any clutter in and around the hallways, bedrooms, kitchen floors, closets, etc. Place shoes, jackets, purses inside closets. Remove dirty floor mats. Place any children's toys away in closets or storage chests.
EXTERIOR
01.
Remove cars in driveway and in front of home
If a garage is available, please park cars in garage or down the street and away from the home.
02.
Remove trash cans
Please place trash cans and any garbage out of sight.
03.
Tidy up landscaping
Trim overgrown bushes, remove any weeds, cut back overgrown trees, place new mulch on landscaping beds. Clear any and all trash from around your property. Trim your lawn, rake any leaves or pine needles. Put away any garden tools or toys around the yard.
04.
Uncover patio grills and furniture
Patio and grill covers should all be removed and placed out of sight on the day of the shoot. Umbrellas should be uncovered and opened as well.
What to expect on the day of your shoot
All the tips above should be completed prior to your shoot. Having your home in order before your shoot will make it easier on you and the photographer for the day of. Prior to your scheduled appointment time, you can move any cars out of the driveway and street, turn on all the lights inside and out, open curtains and blinds and secure your pets. If you wish to remain in your home during the shoot, your photographer will ask that you stay behind him, in another room or outside during the shoot. You may also choose to leave the home as well. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions before your shoot!
